Questions
Is the WOF reminder really free?
Yes. It is free for every driver, with no app and no subscription. You get an email two weeks and three days before your WOF (and rego, if you add it) is due, and you can turn the emails off at any time.
How often do I need a WOF in New Zealand?
Cars first registered in New Zealand from 2000 onwards need a WOF every year. Older cars need one every six months. A brand-new car gets its first WOF for three years.
Where do I find my WOF date?
On the WOF sticker in the top corner of your windscreen. The rego label next to it shows when your rego runs out.
Can I get my WOF done early?
Yes. You can get a WOF up to a month before it runs out without losing any time on it, so a two-week reminder leaves room to book.
What happens if my car fails its WOF?
You have 28 days to fix the faults and go back to the same place for a recheck, which is usually free or cheaper. Post the fail sheet items on AutoRepairs NZ and local businesses reply with a price.
